I wanted to create an environment that was fit for learning and also a place for the students to be safe. In the classroom is an art area where the students can paint and create. There is also a library/quiet area made just for reading where there is a couch, chairs, pillows, and plenty of books. The dramatic play area has a kitchen and table and storage bins for the different materials the students can use. There are also blocks next to the dramatic play bins for the students to build and create. The science and sand and water table area has a sink for the students to use after they have explored through all the materials. There are storage areas all around the room for both the students’ and the teacher’s things like the cubbies for students to put their backpacks and lunches. At the front of the room is a gathering place for discussions and read-alouds and a kidney bean table in the back corner for the teacher to work with multiple students at a time. There is a small safe area in the room that is for students who become upset and can use it to learn how to compose themselves. Another door in the room leads out to the class garden that all the students will contribute to and it is blocked off for the students’ safety. I made sure that the room is spaced out enough that, if needed, a wheel chair can move around easily. There are three tables in the middle of the room for the students to do their work and use manipulatives and materials for learning. Each learning area is a contribution to the learning environment and each area must be thought out and prepared for each student to benefit from.
